Draupadi Murmu is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was born on 20 June 1958 in Mayurbhanj, Orissa, India. She is the official candidate of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance for the 2022 Indian presidential election. She previously served as the ninth governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community from the state of Odisha in India. She is the first governor of Jharkhand to serve a five-year term, and the first tribal to be nominated as the President of India. In the year 1997, she entered politics with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Before joining politics, Draupathi Murmu served as Honorary Assistant Professor at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Rairangpur. After which worked as Junior Assistant in Orissa Irrigation Department.
In the year 1997, the Bharatiya Janata Party joined the BJP and started its political career. In the same year Rairangpur in Orissa was elected as the Zilla Parishad.
After which she was elected from the constituency in the assembly elections in the year 2000 and got the charge of Transport and Commerce Department. From 2002 to 2009, served as the District President of BJP for Mayurganj District.
Meanwhile, in the year 2004, Rairangpur also became an MLA. After which in the year 2006, he was appointed as the state president of Orissa’s Morcha Scheduled Castes.
In the year 2013, she became District BJP District President for the third time, her tenure lasted till April 2015, in May 2015 she was elected as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand.
